The Human Development Center (HDC) provides comprehensive mental health and developmental support services to all stakeholders of the educational institution, including students, parents, and faculty at the School and Degree College levels. The Center envisions delivering high-quality, ethical, and inclusive services to promote overall positive mental health and inclusion.
The Center adopts a holistic and preventive approach, focusing on early identification, assessment, prevention, intervention, counselling, remediation, consultation, training, occupational therapy, referral activities and services. Through these services, the Center aims to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for all students; prevent and respond to crises; address students’ social-emotional needs; provide initial screening and observation of specific children at the time of admission; diagnose and respond to serious mental health conditions in children.
The Center also aims to maximise inclusive support for students with special needs who are either diagnosed or at risk, working in partnership with parents, educators, management, and external multidisciplinary professionals to ensure positive outcomes for all.
The Human Development Center is supported by a multidisciplinary team of 10 professionals during the current academic year, comprising five professionally qualified Counsellors/Psychologists, four Special Educators, and one Occupational Therapist. The team functions under the expert guidance and supervision of Senior Psychiatrist Dr. Harish Shetty, ensuring ethical practice and high standards of care.
The Counselling Services at the Center provide emotional and psychological support to students, parents, and faculty for concerns related to stress, anxiety, behaviour, academics, self-esteem, relationships, and adjustment. Services include individual and group counselling, preventive screening, crisis support, parent counselling, and teacher consultations using evidence-based and child-centred approaches.
The Center offers remedial education and inclusive support for students with special educational needs who are diagnosed or identified as at risk. Individualised instruction, targeted interventions, and Individualised Education Programs (IEPs) are designed to strengthen foundational skills and support successful integration into mainstream classrooms.
Our Center provides Occupational Therapy to support students in developing functional skills such as motor coordination, sensory processing, attention, self-regulation, handwriting, and classroom independence. Interventions are individualised, goal-oriented, and implemented collaboratively with teachers, parents, and the multidisciplinary team to promote inclusion and functional independence.
Parents and students may reach out to the Center through their respective teachers, coordinators, Headmistresses, or Principals for concerns related to academic, emotional, or behavioural issues. Additionally, the Human Development Center, located on the 3rd floor, can be contacted directly through its official Instagram account @smshumandevelopmcenter or via the designated phone numbers 02261327345/344/343/339.
